469. George Cheetham, Stalybridge (DD). Dec. 1819, Jun. 1820. 7 items. 36 horse power crank engine, with 30¾ inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion, [ cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod. Also fire extinguishing apparatus.
Reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and boilers, plan of the tunnel; plan and section of the engine and boiler houses and notes for the engine and extinguishing apparatus sent to Boulton Watt & Co. The reverse drawings bear letter codes. Also the following drawings of extinguishing apparatus: plan and elevation of pipes, extinguishing vessels etc.; sketch plan and section of air vessel etc.

For George Cheetham. Textile mill, Stalybridge. The engine was actually made in 1814, but not appropriated to Cheetham until Nov. 1819. The concern later became George Cheetham & Sons. See Portfolio 5/525 for boat boilers for land and the second 36 horse power engine installed in this mill.
