475. Thomas Houldsworth, Manchester (VA). May 1819, Jul., Aug., Oct. 1822. 8 items. 40 horse power crank engine, with 32½ inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion, [cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod]. Also fire extinguishing apparatus, 1819.
Reverse plan and sections of the engine house and boiler, plan of the tunnel; reverse plan and sections of 3 boilers; letter from James Fairweather dated Manchester, 31 Oct. 1822, with plan and section of 2 boilers and steam pipes. All the drawings except the last item bear letter codes. Also sketch of air vessel, pipe for extinguishing apparatus, sent to Soho 4 May 1819, marked "If not used for Houldsworth's, will be taken for CC36 extinguishing pump" - Thomas Orrell [see Portfolio 5/466].
