489. Hugh Beaver, Manchester (YK). Jun., Jul. 1824, May 1829, Apr., May 1839. 9 items. 60 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 38 inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.
Reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and boilers, plan of the tunnel; plan and section of the engine house and part of the premises and plan of the plot of land sent by James Fairweather, 18 Jun. 1824. The reverse drawings bear letter codes. Also the following later items: "alteration of valves" - 2 drawings, May 1829; drawing of new piston rod and brass grease cup by William Bennett, 1 Apr. 1839; cylinder bottom - partially shaded drawings by William Bennett, May 1839, with later notes added.

For Hugh Beaver. Textile mill, Jersey St., Manchester. The engine was actually made in 1817, but not appropriated for Beaver until 1824. Beaver bought a 60 horse boat engine for land in 1831 [see Portfolio 5/1043].
