45 horse power crank engine. Engine countermanded and never erected.
Reverse plan of the engine and boiler houses, longitudinal section of the engine house with eccentric working gear pencilled in, sections of the engine house and boilers. All the drawings bear letter codes.
For Scarth Marshall & Co. Cotton [?] mill, Manchester. The engine was ordered in Apr. 1803, and an entry was opened in Engine Order Book No. 5. The firm countermanded it in Dec. of the same year. Boulton Watt & Co. pointed out to Scarth Marshall & Co. on 22 Dec. 1803 that they had prepared a lot of the materials for the engine specially to Scarth Marshall & Co.'s specification and in great haste, and therefore they were bound to incur a loss as the parts could not easily be reused [see Business Letter Book Sep. 1803-Aug. 1804].

80 horse power double-acting independent crank engine, with 44 inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.
