For the Dublin Canal Co. This was one of two 3 horse power engines supplied to the Birmingham Canal Co. for the construction of the Summit Locks. It is almost identical to the engine supplied to Mona Mine in 1790 [see Portfolio 5/244]. It was sold to the Dublin Canal Co. in 1792. The boiler is of an unusual construction; the fire place is in front of the boiler and works into two horizontal flues. These join at the back of the boiler to form one vertical flue.
