Description12 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 19? inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, parallel motion.

Includes reverse general view of the engine, reverse plans and sections of the engine and boilers showing connection to the mill; reverse plans and sections of the engine house; working gear - coloured reverse front and side views; double stop pipe (reverse); connecting links, dated 23 Jul. 1804 - original and reverse. All the drawings bear letter codes.

For Daff Smith of Swainton, Nottingham, "grazier", William Smith and John Heath of Nottingham, hosiers, and Thomas Prentice of Nottingham. Cotton mill, Radford, Nottinghamshire. This engine's entry in the Catalogue of Old Engines reads "Smiths Heath & Prentice (suppose Radford Cotton Co. No. 1)." By 1804 the concern had become William Smith & Co.
