For Shelvefield Gravels. This engine was of a highly unusual construction. The beam was suspended from above. The outer end was connected to a set of bellows, while the inner end was directly connected to the piston rod. The piston rod was kept true as it moved up and down by means of roller running against vertical guide posts. These drawings were sent to John Laurence, but it is unclear if the engine was ever made, as there is a gap in Laurence's incoming correspondence for 1790. The engine does not appear in John Southern's List of Books or the Drawing Office Index.
