Machinery etc.: Plan and section of shafting - coloured reverse drawing; details of circular shears - partially coloured original and reverse drawings; small sketch of feeding rollers; plan of additions to Soho Mint (with outline elevation of the building on the same sheet) - partially coloured reverse drawing; counting machine - partially coloured drawing; elevations and plans of coining press, buffer box for coining press marked "Bombay Mint, also Soho Mint, as made" - partially coloured reverse drawings. All the drawings except the sketch of the feeding rollers bear letter codes. Also the following undated and uncoded items: partially coloured plans and sections of working gear, vacuum cylinder etc.; cold water main - partially coloured drawing; plan of water pipes [?]; elevation of a hand-operated [?] press (the drawing shows a maker's plate which reads "Manufactu. Jas. W. & Co. Soho"; 2 sheets of pencil estimates [?], 1890s - "Machinery for producing Taels", "Cost of Additional Machinery for producing Small Coins", "Cost of Additional Machinery for 10 and 5 Cash" (these estimates are in Henry Hazleton's hand and are on paper watermarked 1891).
Plans of the Mint: "General Plan of Soho Mint"; untitled plan of the mint and surrounding land at the Foundry on tracing paper, marked "No. 2"; draft plan of extensions to the mint - coloured plan of the buildings with extensions pencilled in; "Plan of proposed addition to Soho Mint" - plan on tracing paper; plan of new mint building - coloured plan with extensive pencil amendments, and a plan and elevation on the back. None of these drawings bear letter codes or are dated.

For James Watt & Co., Soho Mint, Soho Foundry. James Watt & Co. established this new mint at Soho Foundry in 1860, and extended it on various occasions. The machinery included the press bought from Soho Mint at the Manufactory in 1850 [see Portfolio 5/714f].
