| Description | Bell Crank Engines (1 item). 4 horse power bell crank engine, with 13 inch cylinder, 2 foot stroke.
Coloured plan of the engine and boiler by Dudgeon (on the same sheet are coloured drawings of a new cylinder for Heaton Colliery).
Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 506. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 254.
For Thomas Dudgeon. Lathe engine, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. The Catalogue of Old Engines confuses the two engines shown in Dudgeon's drawings, and says that this bell crank engine was a winding engine for Heaton Colliery. The Heaton Colliery engine was in fact a 20 horse crank engine virtually identical to those for Wallsend and Cowpen collieries [see Portfolio 5/252].
