Also coloured plan of engine, sugar mill and 2 boilers etc. marked "This drawing came in Mr. Lawson's letter of 21 Sep. 1813 & is supposed to be sent from Jamaica by W. Murdock [i.e. nephew of William Murdock Senior], & intended to show the situation of Messrs. Mitchell's Engine 6 horse No. 5 ZAB".
Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 662. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 220.
These two sheets of reverse drawings were used for three separate engines. Henry Hazleton assigned a portfolio number to the engines ordered by the Mitchells and the engine ordered by Jukes Coulson & Co., despite the fact that they all shared the same drawings. The engines were as follows: William & Roland Mitchell, Jamaica (ZP, ZAB) [Hazleton's Portfolio 790].
For Donald MacLean, Dry River Estate, Jamaica. Two sugar plantation engines ordered by William & Roland Mitchell of Lime St., London. The original drawings for these engines were made in Apr. 1813 and it is almost certain that the reverse drawings in this portfolio served for both engines, as no other drawings for Mitchell are listed in the Drawings Day Book. The firm later became W. R. & S. Mitchell, and they supplied pumps and a 14 horse engine to the estate. The maintenance of these engines was later taken over by A. Stewart & Westmoreland.
Jukes Coulson & Co., Bahia, Brazil (ZAC) [Hazleton's Portfolio 791].
For Bahia, Brazil. Sugar plantation [?] engine ordered by Jukes Coulson & Co. The original drawings for this engine were made in Jul. 1813.
