Description12 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 19? inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, parallel motion. Second boiler added 1796.

Coloured original and reverse general view of the engine and plans and sections of the engine and boiler (6 drawings on 1 large sheet, separate sheets of original and reverse drawings); framing and cistern - reverse drawings marked "NB the inclosed was made for an 8 horse engine, but the engine is a 10 horse & the frame must be larger accordingly. J. S. [John Southern]"; parallel motion - coloured original and reverse drawings; working gear - coloured original and reverse drawings.

Also reverse sections of old and new boilers dated 1 Dec. 1796. All the drawings bear letter codes.

For William Douglas of Pendleton and James and Edward Weatherby of Newmarket, the executors of Thomas Douglas of Pendleton. Cotton mill, Pendleton. Douglas & Co. originally ordered an 8 horse engine in Jan. 1792, but changed the order to a 10 horse in Feb. John Southern recorded the details of the 10 horse engine in his List of Books, but in Jun. the order changed again, to a 12 horse engine.
