904. 8 Horse Sugar Plantation Engines, West Indies (DMC, BH, ZBD, ZBE, ZBQ, ZBR). Dec. 1813, Sep. 1814, Jul. 1815. 1 item.
Six 8 horse power independent crank engines, with 17? inch cylinders, 2½ foot strokes, parallel motions, cast iron beams, cast iron connecting rods.

Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 690. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 222, 224.

This sheet of drawings were used for six separate engines. Henry Hazleton assigned a portfolio number to each engine despite the fact that there were no individual drawings for the engines. The engines, which the Drawing Office Index lists as 10 horse engines, were as follows:
Underwood Dyett & Co., Demerara (DMC) [Hazleton's Portfolio 904].
For Charles Bean, Demerara. Sugar plantation engine ordered by Underwood Dyett & Co. The original drawings for this engine were made in Dec. 1813. The engine was later maintained by Thomas Daniel & Co., and the power was increased to 13 horses in 1845.
Underwood Dyett & Co., Demerara (BH) [Hazleton's Portfolio 905].
For Demerara. Sugar plantation engine ordered by Underwood Dyett & Co. The original drawings for this engine were made in Dec. 1813.
Amyand Cornewall & Co., Grenada (ZBD) [Hazleton's Portfolio 907].
For the Lataste Estate, Grenada. Sugar plantation engine ordered by Amyand Cornewall & Co. The engine was originally allocated to Dicks & Clement, but they countermanded their order in Jun. 1814, and the engine was transferred to Amyand Cornewall & Co. The original drawings for this engine were made in Sep. 1814. This engine was seized at sea en route to Grenada and sold at a prize sale in the USA. It was purchased by a Mr. Bradley of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Underwood Dyett & Co., Demerara (ZBE) [Hazleton's Portfolio 906].
For John Walcott, Bachelor's Adventure, Demerara. Sugar plantation engine ordered by Underwood Dyett & Co. The original drawings for this engine were made in Sep. 1814. The engine was later erected on the Waterloo Estate, and Peter Girvin had this engine increased to 13 horses in 1840.
Amyand Cornewall & Co., Grenada (ZBQ) [Hazleton's Portfolio 908].
For the Lataste Estate, Grenada. Sugar plantation engine ordered by Amyand Cornewall & Co. The original drawings for this engine were made in Jul. 1815. This engine replaced the one seized at sea. Maintenance of the engine was later taken over by Thomson Hankey & Co. who ordered several spares and replacement parts.

For Mr. van Barcle, Demerara. Sugar plantation engine ordered by Thomas Daniel & Sons of Bristol. The original drawings for this engine were made in Jul. 1815.
