986. John & William Strange, Wotton-under-Edge (GR). Aug. 1822. 2 items. 10 horse power independent crank engine, with 19¾ inch cylinder, 2½ foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.
Reverse plan of the engine house and boiler, longitudinal section of the engine house, cross-section of the boiler, cross-section of the engine house. Both sheets bear letter codes.

For John & William Strange. Gig mill, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. Their name was frequently spelt "Strang". The Stranges were originally intended to have the engine coded FX, but they were sent the engine coded GR, which had been allocated to Thomas Mercer [see Portfolio 5/985].
