987. W. & P. Playne & Co., Minchinhampton (GT). May 1823. 3 items. 10 horse power independent crank engine, with 19¾ inch cylinder, 2½ foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.

For W. & P. Playne & Co. Textile mill, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire. The firm had earlier bought a 14 horse crank engine [see Portfolio 5/454], and a 14 horse independent engine [see Portfolio 5/975], and in 1827 they bought a 6 horse independent engine [see Portfolio 5/1350e].
