8 horse power independent crank engine, with [17? inch cylinder, 2½ foot stroke], parallel motion, [cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod].

"Plan, elevation & section of present and auxiliary engine, for driving tilt hammer, Hercules fan bellows and lift hammer, Chatham Yard" - coloured drawing; sketch for proposed connection of 16 horse and 8 horse engines - drawing and tracing; sketch of 16 horse shaft to be replaced by a new one to couple with 8 horse; sketch plan for proposed connection of 16 horse and 8 horse engines - press copy; plan of the 16 and 8 horse engines and boilers - partially coloured tracing.

For the Honourable the Commissioners of the Navy. Auxiliary smithery engine, Chatham Dockyard. This engine was connected to the 16 horse engine above. The engine was originally made as a 10 horse power engine in 1828, and converted to an 8 horse and sold to Chatham Dockyard in 1842.
