| Description | There are many plans, drawings and calculations which survive from John Watt’s surveying activities. Not all can be attributed to him with complete certainty. Some appear to be unfinished and a large number are undated. Most are of areas surrounding Glasgow in Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire. John Watt surveyed the Clyde from above Rutherglen to Portincross in 1734. This was engraved in 1759, and published 1759 - 1760, after being completed by James Watt of Greenock, his brother, and his two nephews, James and John Watt. Many of the drawings have a docket written by James Watt. There are five survey notebooks containing calculations. There are also some hand coloured drawings and religious texts (the ten commandments, the creed etc.). Bundles /53 and /55 have been item listed. |
