| Description | A bundle of twelve letters to James Watt from William Alexander.
There is no bundle label. On the outside fold of letter 1 is written in red ink:
‘ Letters of W.Alexander. 1770 to 1771’. ‘ No. 1 to 12.’
The letters were numbered in red ink in roughly chronological order, though one is not dated. They have now been arranged in chronological order and renumbered, and a conspectus of old and new numbers is given at the end of the list.
The letters have a docket written by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date. A few have summaries, which are given below in italics.
