There is no bundle wrapper. On the outside fold of the uppermost letter has been written in red ink, over pencil.:
' 1773 to 1775. No. 1 to 22.'
The letters are numbered in red ink, in reverse chronological order.
They have now been arranged in chronological order and a conspectus of old and new numbers is given at the end of the list.
The letters have a docket by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date. One letter has been given a summary by James Watt jr.
