| Description | Bundle of fifty-one letters to James Watt, from various correspondents, 1794-1796, and nine unnumbered documents in a separate small bundle. There is a bundle label, written in red ink, as follows: ' Letters from Mr Roebuck, Count Reden, G. Lee. J Miller, Lord Dundas and others. 1794-1796. No. 1 to 51.' The letters are numbered in red ink. There are six unnumbered paper enclosures. The letter numbered 1 (old no.) has '1794 to 1796' written on it in pencil. The separate small bundle of nine letters and papers concerning steam heating etc. do not seem to be part of the original bundle and have been listed separately at the end. The letters were arranged in approximately chronological order with the most recent first. They have now been placed in chronological order beginning with the earliest, and renumbered. There is a conspectus of old and new numbers at the end of the list. The letters have a docket by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date, and some have a very brief summary. Any summary in square brackets has been provided by the cataloguer. |
