| Description | Bundle of 35 letters to Ann Watt from James Watt. 1787. This may have been an original bundle, once arranged in chronological order with the most recent letter first, as the letter now numbered as 34 was, from its colour, obviously the uppermost letter in the bundle and has a docket ‘Mr Watt. 1787 ’ on it. There are, however, no surviving bundle labels. The letters had been unfolded and transferred to one modern folder in the ?1970s. The letters were not numbered. The letters have been arranged in chronological order, beginning with the earliest. The docket records the correspondent, ‘ Mr Watt ’, and the date of the letter. At this period, James Watt was mostly in London.; Ann Watt was in Birmingham and Glasgow. A brief summary of the letters’ contents has been given in square brackets by the cataloguer. |
