DescriptionLetters to Thomas Barnes (d. 1801), who was a colliery agent in the Newcastle area, based at Walker Colliery, initially employed by Charles Brandling. Barnes acted as informal Newcastle agent for Boulton & Watt, and the partners and James Lawson often stayed with him. James Watt jr. first met him in January 1796 while serving injunctions on pirate engine users in the Newcastle area.
