DescriptionThere is an original portfolio cover of cloth and boards covered in marbled paper. The label, in James Watt jr.'s writing, reads: 'Letters relative to my Executorship for my father.' The phrase 'Memoir of his Life etc.' has been crossed out.The portfolio held five sections of letters and papers, each with a diffferent wrapper. These are described by James Watt jr. as follows:

—— 'Part of my father's correspondence with Mr. Arch[ibal]d Wallace, commencing in November 1818, and with Mr. Arch[ibal]d Hamilton. chiefly relative to the affairs of the latter, and to my father's security for him to the Bank of Scotland. Continuation of Correspondence on the same subject between myself & Mr. A. Wallace, October 1819 to April 1820.' (42 pieces). 20 letters.
—— 'Correspondence with C.D. Donald MS. of Glasgow, and with Mr. Archibald Wallace. August 1819 to December 1819. relative to the Payment of Mrs. Watt's Mortgage of £2,500 on Mrs. Douglas' Esate, and its reinvestment in Shares of the Glasgow Water Works.' (22 pieces). 17 letters.
