| Description | There is an original portfolio cover of cloth and boards covered in marbled paper. The label, in James Watt jr.'s writing, reads: 'Correspondence relative to the Legacies left by my Father's Will, settlement of Accounts etc. September 1819 to —— 1820. 1820 to —— 1834.' This portfolio comprises two sequences of letters and seven small packets of copy press letters from James Watt jr. to various people. The first is an alphabetical sequence of letters to James Watt jr. from various people, 1819-1820; the second is an alphabetical sequence of letters and copy press replies from 1831 to 1834. The 1831-1834 letters also deal with the effect on legacies of the death of Ann Watt and especially with the legacies left to the daughters of Elizabeth Birnie. The letters in the first sequence,1819 to 1820, have been arranged in alphabetical order at some point. This has been retained.
