DescriptionThere is an original portfolio cover of cloth and boards covered in marbled paper. The label, in James Watt jr.'s writing, reads: 'My Father's Estate in England & Scotland. papers relative to Probate, Legacies, Annuities, & Residues -- 1819 -20, -21, -22, -23, -31,- 33.'

The papers in the portfolio had been organised into three sequences.
One has a label written by James Watt jr.: ' Legacy Stamp Receipts. 1819 - 1821. 1832, 1833, 1834, 1835.' (43 items)

The second sequence of papers has a bundle label, written by James Watt jr.:
-- 'Papers relative to Probate, Legacies & Residue of my Father's Estate in England. 1819 - 1823.' (14 items)

The last sequence of papers has a bundle label, written by James Watt jr.:
--- 'Papers relative to the Probate & Residue of my Father's Estate in Scotland. 1820 - 1822.' (19 items)

Related MaterialThe Watt and Muirhead papers were microfilmed by Adam Matthews publications as part of 'Industrial Revolution: A Documentary History'. 'Muirhead I' was published in Series One: parts 6 and 8, in 1997. The 'James Watt papers' were published in 'Series Three', 1999.
