The letters had been arranged in roughly chronological order, beginning with the most recent, and each letter had been numbered in red ink. The original dockets, written by James Watt jr. on old nos. one to eight, and on the rest by Gregory Watt, give the name of the correspondent and the date. Sixteen of the letters date from 1800. |
