DescriptionThe letters may have been written during an expedition by Creighton to gather information for a geological map of Scotland which Creighton suggests compiling in his letter of 1 April 1803 [see MS 3219/7/48 and /51]. Gregory kept a memorandum book on his travels in Scotland, 1803-1804 [MS 3219/7/38]. There is further correspondence from Creighton to Gregory, 1800-1804 in MS 3219/7/5.

AdminHistoryA bundle of fifteen letters and six drawings sent to Gregory Watt by William Creighton. There is a bundle label, on which is written in red ink: 'Packet containing letters to Gregory Watt, Nos. 1-15 and sketches No. 1 to 6 and 6 pages of tables etc. 1801-1804.' The letters and drawings are numbered in separate sequences. the '6 pages of tables' had no number. The letters had been arranged in chronological order and each letter numbered in red ink. This order has been retained. There are no original dockets.
