| Description | This bundle was previously stored in Tin Box 6 and was described on the 1873 Inventory as ‘ G.Watt's letters to his Father, 1800 and 1801, No'd 1 to 22’.There is a threaded bundle label, written in black ink, as follows: ‘ G. Watt. 1800-1801.’ ‘Letters to his Father — No. 1 to 22’, has been added in red ink and the letters are numbered in red ink. Letter no. 3 was found, in 1999, in MS 3219/7/1: JWP 6/14, and was replaced here. It was noted then that the portion of the letter with Gregory Watt’s signature had been cut away, so a large part of the letter is missing. Many of the letters have pencil ticks and areas of text marked out in pencil. Occasionally words are corrected in pencil. This may heve been done by J.P. Muirhead, when planning the memoir of Gregory Watt which he intended to write. |
