| Description | 'Coining Money. 1788' (This item is a small hardback notebook with a green cover. On the cover is written the preceding inscription. The notebook contains observations, calculations, and accounts relating to coinage. At the beginning of the notebook there is a table of costs for coining money. Pages of notes have headings such as; 'Steel die forging, turning, hardening and tempering' and 'Presses and other mechanical inventions relative to coining.' Enclosed in the notebook are four items. The first item is a newspaper cutting relating to new coinage. The remaining items are all memorandums. The first is headed 'Mr Droz says that I must have a lathe with 2 points.' The second memo is headed 'Thick Metal hot rolled to 1/4 inch thick or 250." The final memorandum is headed 'MB Desires.') |
