| Description | My Lord,
I feel sensibly your lordship's goodness in noticing the application of Mr. Thomas S. Hutton, which however I must observe was made unknown to me. My partner Mr. Watt, who I am sorry to say is at present in Scotland, is far better acquainted with the connexions & views of the young man in question than I am & could, of course, have given more explicit answers to your lordship's enquiries concerning him; but I have no hesitation in saying that during the 6 years he has been in the employ of the firm of Boulton, Watt and Co his general conduct has been satisfactory, and should he be so fortunate as to succeed in obtaining your lordship's recommendation to the situation he solicits I think he would not discredit it.
I have the honor to be My Lord Your Lordship's Most Faithful & Obedient humble Servant
