Dear Sir, Permit me to introduce to you the Bearer, Mons’r De Longastre, a French Emigrant Gentleman who has been many Years in this Country, & for 18 Months past a resident at Birmingham, occupying himself in the profession of a Portrait Painter in Crayons. With the same view he now purposes to pay a visit to the Potteries; & if you, or any of your Friends, feel an inclination to have your Likenesses transmitted to posterity let me recommend the Crayon of M’r Longastre as I am induced to think it will do justice to your wishes, judging from some successful specimens which he has exhibited of his talents in the Portraits of your Friends at Heathfield & here. I venture to hope that you will find this Gentleman, independent of his professional merits, in other respects deserving of any attentions or civilities with which you may please to honor him during his stay in your neighbourhood.
