DescriptionDear Father,
You are doubtless before this acquainted with Monneron’s fate. The ingratitude of his country must certainly strike you, as every other person who has any knowledge of the subject. With respect to our proceedings at the Mint, I have only to observe, according to the request of Bourdieu, &c., we have put a stop to the coining—at lea[s]t, to the cutting out. The few blanks cut out we intend striking; it will not render them less likely for sale, as they and the blanks will probable be destined to the melting pot, and the expences will be the same, being obliged in some measure to employ the workmen for a few days. To night, however, we intend to give them notice, and wait your determination with respect to those you intend to continue in your employment; the others must be discharged.
Subjoined is a statement of the state of the copper:
T. Cwt. Qr. lb.
Black sheet and cut, about 5
Finished metal, ready for cutting out, 2 1
2 sols struck, 50 cask 7 10
2 sols blanks now striking 4
Medal blanks 10
5 sols remaining from last packing 1 1 7
18 1 1 7
N.B. About 10 ton of tyle is converted.
We are all well, and join in best wishes for your health and prosperity. I am your dutiful son,
Mattw. R. Boulton
