| Description | Sir, I have just receiv'd your packet on Fox's business, which I will examine and report upon against to morrow's parcel. At present I cannot help thinking that, if you wish to have any future dealings with them, that it would be best to let the matter drop, and only in case of actual necessity to do what you wish now to do. Their representations in the present instance cannot hurt your credit any where; they dare not say much about it, as they will discover too much of their own greediness thereby; and I think Mrs. Matthews' offer of discounting, and their refusal, must do away any distrust and also give the lie to their being in actual want of money. Hoping you arrived in London safe and well, I remain, very respectfully, sir, Your obliged humble servant, Wm. D. Brown Soho, October 30th, 1799. [Edited transcript.] |
