DescriptionSoho. February 10th, 1800.
Sir,
I hope by this time the first barge with the 132 casks is arrived and that the others will immediately follow, as from the severity of the weather here the floods must have abated. We have applied to Sherratt for the best information he could give; he promised to send an account this morning, but have been expecting it in vain.
On examining Bondinot's letters I find, though he thinks the planchets high, he says, "But we must submit to existing circumstances and all I can ask is to have them at the lowest market price."
I find there are several vessels at Liverpool now loading for Philadelphia, all of which presume will sail in a month. The last remittance, £1251. 11, not being honoured leaves the Mint in your debt £1329. 18. 1 less £58, that I suppose Mrs. Matthews will recover, for convoy. Therefore you will please say if any planchets are to be got ready for Mr. Bondinot. He also wants a small quantity, say 2 tons, of half cent planchets. Is the limited time expired for exporting copper, or did the prohibition not extend to planchets?
Wishing you the two most valuable things on earth, viz. health and peace of mind, I remain, sir,
Your very obliged humble servant,
Wm. D. Brown
