DescriptionSir,
Agreeably to your commands of the 28th current I have told Mr. Busch not to set off till he hears further from you. I have also order'd the gardner to water the land and take care of the sheep. On Saturday evening we had here some gentle showers which would refresh the ground, on which account no water was thrown up on Sunday morning as was intended, and yesterday it looked like more; to day it is very fine indeed.
The last grass was cut on Saturday evening, below the pool and adjoining Mr. Ford's, and that above the ram behind Mr. Pearson's; to day the former cutting as far as the ram on the lower side of the walk to the pool will be carried, an abundant crop and well made, and if as fine a day to morrow the whole will be carried on Wednesday.
To night the engine will be employed in throwing up water. I fear the Mint harvest will conclude with the hay-at least, that it will not be protracted by fresh orders; in that case, many a poor soul that can hardly now keep alive will absolutely starve, nothing else of work being in want of their labours. Wishing you a continuance of health, I am, sir,
Your very obliged humble servant,
Wm. D. Brown
