TitleMatthew Boulton, William D. Brown, 1792 - 1805
LevelSeries
Date1792 - 1805
DescriptionINTRODUCTION
This file was probably originally in the form of a bundle, but under M. R. Boulton’s arrangement, about 1819, its contents were transferred to a portfolio (145), entitled
W Brown / 1792 to 1804
and it was placed in Box I. I.
The documents in this file are almost entirely incoming letters or memoranda from Brown. The five documents listed at the end of the sequence (140-144) do not appear to belong to this file, and were probably transferred by the Assay Office from elsewhere, as perhaps were some of the other miscellaneous documents towards the end of the sequence. In particular, the document dated 1805 appears to stand outside the range of the original file, but it may be that it was simply missed when the title was given to the portfolio.
64-70 were formerly folded up in a single bundle, the outer letter (67) being marked, "W. D. Brown: sundry letters, with accounts of coinage." Two earlier letters from Brown will be found among Matthew Boulton’s General Correspondence.
In the following List, the copies are all press-copies, except where otherwise stated. The summaries in quotation-marks are taken from the contemporary dockets.
