TitleLetter. John Fothergill (Handsworth) to Matthew Boulton (London).
LevelItem
Date16 February 1772
Description(Directed to 14 Cannon Street.)
[I am much obliged to you for the kind trouble you have taken in my private affairs with Mr. Lushington. Mr. Mainwaring has written to you. I do not think the connection [? Adam Brothers] can possibly take place without being concerned in the Manufactory also, as many shops and tools will be wanted in the fabrication of silver which can hardly be operated from the other. Whillington, your seeds man at Coventry, writes that an Italian doctor will soon make his appearance at Soho to offer you a secret how to render quicksilver malleable so as to make vessels &c., thereof. I could have wished that you & Mr. Taylor had made a party to return together as some points in trade might have been fixed on between you to mutual advantage. Your brother keeps house at Soho at present, and seems in a declining way: I fancy he is uneasy in his mind.]
