Datec April 1780
Description"Mr. Hodges's explanation of Monsr. Moussin Poushkin's order." (Directed on the address-label to Mr. Boulton.)

Monsieur Moussin Pouschkin's order for plated covers was transmitted us by J. Stuart the 11th November 1779 and afterwards confirm'd with some alterations by a letter from J. S. of 21 December 1779. The order was sent off (agreeable to directions) to Mr. Heming, goldsmith, the 11th April 1780.
The 8th April we writ to Mr. Stuart to know if his Excellency left any directions respecting the payment. In reply J. S. inform'd us by letter 11th April: "He left no directions with me for payment, but make no doubt Mr. Baxter, on your application, will discharge the amount."
The 15th April we writ to Mr. Baxter informing him of having expedited a plated order he sent us, and at same time was added a postscript, by Mr. F.'s order, saying, "We have executed some plated covers for His E. M. M. Pousckin and have deliver'd 'em to Mr. Heming. We beg leave to mention that we understand we are to apply to you for payment, which if so, beg the favour of a line and will send you the invoice."
No reply (that I have seen) has been receiv'd from Mr. Baxter on this head.
