TitleLetter. Charlotte Matthews (London) to Matthew Boulton (Bristol).
LevelItem
Date4 September 1787
Description(Directed to the Bush Tavern. Boulton had intended to leave Soho for Bristol with John Vivian on the 1st, but was prevented by illness.)

Dear Sir,
Mr. Droz call’d here this morning for his directions where to find you. He was inform’d by Mr. M. that you were now at Bristol, but that upon his (W. M.) writing to you this evening there was scarce a doubt but that you wou’d meet at Birmingham, for which place he will set off per tomorrow’s coach. I understand he must be at Paris on the 25th of this month.
I must request you will pardon a liberty I have taken, of giving the summer ducks that were offer’d to, and intended for, you, to Dr. Withering, to whom I have been oblig’d to put a query since I left Birmingham, and having nothing else of the scarce kind to offer him at present, I trust you will excuse the freedom I have taken, resting assur’d that the first Captain of my acquaintance that goes to that country from whence they come, shall have a particular order to being me some more, when you most undoubtedly shall have a priority. Upon your return to Birmingham you will please to apologize to Miss Boulton (whom I consider in partnership with you in all things) for the above freedom.
Mr. Matthews desires to be remember’d to you, and I remain, dear sir, your obliged humble servant,
Charlotte Matthews
