(Dated 29 Feb. in error.)
Dear Madam,
Mr. Watt communicated to me yesterday a paragraph in your last letter to him, after which he burnt it. A word to the wise is enough; I thank you, and shall avail myself of your kind intentions.
We have had a considerable bankruptcy at Birmingham and three of our bankers are taken in for large sums, but I am out of all Birmingham dangers; and yet I have just advanced £629 9s. 0d. to save an old friend, but I have got a temporary security, which is perfectly good. This circumstance hath obliged me to draw two bills on you dated the 26th instant in favour of John Collins at thirty days after date, viz.
£ s. d.
one for 449. 9. 0
another for 180.
629. 9. 0
As I shall receive the cash at Lady Day I shall send it to you and beg you'l accept the two bills aforesaid.
I am sorry Mr. Walker's extream caution gave you and I so much trouble, but hope that matter is settled.
The time of our coming is yet uncertain, but perhaps you may see me sooner than B. & W.
Wishing you health and spirits, I remain, dear madam, yours affectionately,
M. Boulton
