Dear Sir,
I flatter my self you know me too well to suppose that the request I am going to make you proceeds from a wish to put you to one farthing more expence that can be avoided-indeed the contrary has been the fact, and thro' the greatest hurry of delivering (and at first I had no small difficulty to satisfy the notice) I have done it without any additional asistance. You will therefore easily believe that myself, Mr. Woodward, and my clerk have had full employment; but as the sale decreases our extra trouble (paradoxical as it may appears) will encrease, because we cannot then set apart particular days for delivery, but if we give satisfaction to the public we must deliver oftener the fewer in number. Hitherto I have not employ'd a porter, but I cannot continue to do without one, and under these circumstances I hope you will not consider me encroaching if I request you will allow me to employ one.
My own extra trouble is fully compensated by the office of banker to you, nor shall I urge this request unless you are satisfied of its propriety.
I am, dear sir, yours faithfully,
C. Matthews
