TitleLetter. Mrs. Charlotte Matthews (London) to Matthew Boulton [Soho].
LevelItem
Date21 October 1800
DescriptionMy dear Sir,
I came from Epsom this day, and am sorry to say I think poor Mary very indifferent and her spirits in such a state that I fear she cannot at present undertake a journey to Soho, tho' I have no doubt, rather than disappoint you and the rest of our party, she wou'd come; at the same time, I am convinced her wish is to remain a little time quietly at home to indulge her grief. She proposes coming when Miss Boulton returns home and thinks we cou'd then be of some use in accompanying Miss Boulton; and this plan I shou'd have thought might do vastly well, but that I have learn'd from Mr. James Watt that Miss Boulton must not attempt to return home this month or six weeks. One grand inducement to our coming sooner wou'd be that you are very dull at present, and I shall venture to propose that we come sooner on that very account.
This encloses a letter from Captain Brown in answer to yours by last parcel.
Mr. James Watt will report about your daughter; I have therefore only to beg Mrs. Vere and my compliments to Mrs. Keen and our joint love to yourself, with every good wish for long life and happiness to you, remaining, my dear sir, faithfully and affectionately yours,
C. Matthews
