| Description | ["I am convinced Mr. Perier will not hesitate to accept a bill drawn by Messrs. B. & W. on his house at Paris, for the ballance of your demand; Indeed I conceive the conversation I had with him on that head to be binding on his part. In my former letter I hinted that the object of Interest for the delay, had never been discussed between us, and therefore it was with you to determine to give it up or not. I may & most probably have heard the number of actions created at different times, but I cannot recollect them; I suppose your conjecture may be right, for the last succours of money were, if I mistake not, by Loans, & not by a fresh creation of Actions or Shares. I believe one of the Gentlemen now with you (the shortest & stoutest tho’ I do not know his name) has the Iron foundry for Cannon near Nantes, established by W, & that P[erier] is concern’d with him. I also believe W[iebinem] is now employed in establishing works for them at a place called Mount Cenis near the Canal de Briare in the Nivernois. You may judge therefore if those gentlemen will know the present works carrying on in England or not. I saw at Perier’s water Engine at Chaillot a forge, the hammers of which worked by the fire machine. They certainly will tell you many of the particulars of their works which you may be glad to know from them. I regretted much not having had the pleasure of seeing you when you were last in London, and hope to make myself amends by having your Company frequently at your return. The Travellers will be back about the same time, and then, at latest, you shall know every circumstance you may wish about French forges &c. &c."] |
