[Joseph Harrison asked me to go and see their new Mill at work. I went and saw the Engine turn a wheel with a steady regular motion by the, I don’t know what you call it; say, one Wheel running round the other without turning round itself—you know what I mean. Joseph says a small tilt and pair of rolls are intended to be added, which to all appearance will work well. The only fault found with it was the too great springing and shaking in the rod communicating the wheel and the end of the Engine beam, but this they were to remedy by making a stronger rod. I hope the Horners have now made their last effort to injure you and will give you no more trouble. I believe Mrs. Fothergill thinks of going to Astley this winter as no other place is yet determined upon. Bentley’s affairs turn out very badly, not above 2/6 in the pound.] |
