| Description | "Calculations of rents." Soho 3d April 1790. Dear Sir I beg leave to refer you to my Letter (to you in London) in July last respecting an alteration in our connection. When I last mentioned it to you, you told me you thought we shou'd not be likely to dispute about trifles, but that you wish'd to make some alteration in the Rent to which I answer'd I had no objection if the alteration was not too great; for our general expences already run so very high that they woud not bear much more. You said you thought the building ought to pay somewhere about 5 per Ct. I indeavourd to make out as near as I cou'd what our rent wou'd be, and find according to the inclos'd paper that it wou'd be about £109- instead of £64- which wou'd be an advance of about £45- this is exclusive of mill rent which I consider a seperate thing, even this addition is near 1¼ per Ct upon all the Goods manufactored in these Shops which was only £3847- in 1789. Mr. Chippindalls Button Acct. came last night and if we find it right there appears £214- to be divided amongst us besides his allowance for Salery Warehouse &c. Mr. Pearson is now ready to settle the Books, but if you think well of making any alteration in the Division of our proffits for last year it will be necessary to settle it before the Books can be clos'd; because in that case, the Rents shoud also be alterd for last year. The first seven years of our partnership was up last midsummer. I shall be much obliged by your taking this into consideration soon as you can for Mr Pearson has not posted one Line into the Ledger this year yet; indeed we have hitherto waited for Chippindalls Acct. beleive me Yours Sincerely John Scale P. S. You also mentioned giving up my Salery to which I make no objection if the proffits are divided equal. Our general expences last year was above 20 per Ct. on the prime Cost. |
