| Description | Birm Novr 4th 1777 Dear Sir I wrote last night to Richmond-I mentioned our not having had any conversation upon their works from the time you were last there as I was absent in Cornwall-I mentioned that my objection to the tower was expence and that having such an intermediate length of pipe between that and the town it must be raised 5 or 6 feet above the highest place otherwise the water would flow out too slowly at the service pipes but that if they pleased they might supply part from the higher service intended for Mrs Hoblyn so have the tower so much lower-I mentioned also that the Engine would supply the town without any tower or reservoir & that the bursting of the pipes might in a great measure be prevented by safety valves & that if they had not already gone too far to stop they might delay the building any tower untill I came to sett up the engine when might have my advice-Remember-Jones patent and Taylor's of southampton & have copies of their Specifications-no Letters to day nor news Yours &c James Watt
