Birmingham June 27th 1779
Dear Sir
I have just received yours of the 25th-I wish that Josephs way of making bottom joints may be a good one-The working the bottom valve must do good perhaps the area of the fire grate is too large but that will be cured by a thicker fire-Remember the Licence for shipping the goods as well as the passport is necessary, and enquire if they will allow us to ship Copper in Cakes or Sheets-
Mr Garbett called yesterday to have a proof of my Copying to send to Mr Payne I sent him one or two but was remarkably unsuccessfull by being hurried and over zealous I fancy he would not send them by what I said in my letter to him-I shall Comply with your desire to morrow and hope to be more lucky-I am going out to Mr Fothergills this afternoon & if any thing else occurs shall write from thence-I ever remain, Dear Sir
Yours,
James Watt
Mr Boulton
