| Description | St. Petersburg, the 9/20th August 1793. Sir, I have the pleasure to inform you of my arrival here. I have been uncommonly fortunate in my voyage from London to Cronstat, where I landed on the 17th of this month, so that our passage was effected in the short space of only thirteen days. Some tedious ceremonies at the custom house, and the wind proving too boisterous to attempt crossoing the Neva in a boat, obliged us to tarry two days at Cronstat. I shall deliver my credentials to-morrow, (this being post day) to the merchants to whom I am recommended. In the mean time, having met here an old acquaintance and friend of mine, I am happy in receiving from him such information as will render your mind much more at ease respecting your claim on Samoyloff: he tells me that his man has not fail'd, but on the contrary is considered here as perfectly solvent and in very good circumstances. This material piece of intelligence I would by no means delay acquainting you with, by the first mail departing for England. On my interview with Mr. Raikes I hope it will be confirmed, and that we shall succeed in settling the business with the Russian to your satisfaction. The letter which I had the honour to address to you from Elsinore on the 11th instant I hope you receiv'd; and I am very respectfully, sir, your most obedient humble servant, Andw. Collins.
