| Description | ("No. 4.") 2 ff.
Soho, February 17, 1791. Dear Sir, I wrote to you per last post, since which I have received yours from London. I hope this will find you safe ariv'd at Paris and in good health. I have endeavour'd to keep D. another week and should have succeeded had not three of his friends wrote him very pressing letters to return to Paris or he would loose his appointment. He therefore is determin'd to set out next Sunday to London, but promises to return at my request in one month. I have wrote fully to Mott-x, and this day I have wrote him again, and have inclosed an open letter to Mr. Monneroun, the press-copy of which I inclose, but beg you'l return it at leasure. Whether Mott-x will forward it or not I cannot pretend to say, as he seems now close button'd up. He is a sinsible worthy man, and I should be sorry to disoblige him, for he is an old and steady friend. I have many new reasons for saying that I wish to decline all connections with Pr-x. My friend Mx. would say, tell me your company and I will tell you the rest. I wish you could find some other introduction to Messrs. Monnerons in case my friend doth not send my letter or write to them. I beg you will write me every post what occurs, untill we see what will stand or what will fall. The subject of manufactures is nice and tickleish, and therefore I wish you to say as little as necessary upon that head and not promise too much. D-z wants me to send a memoir by him, as he says he is sure that he can obtain the contract of the c-g for me, but I have no confidence in his honor, his word, or his interest, as I know him to be insincere and false. Droz hath promised the Committee at Paris to erect a proper apparatus in one year, but I know he will not do it in two years, and even then very imperfect. I will either send them the presses ready finish'd, or I will send them the cast-iron frames only and have them mounted at Paris; and when ever this subject wears the face of real solid business I will come to Paris. I am hurry'd whilest writing and cannot recollect all I have to say. Adieu till next post.
