Description(Includes the text of a letter for Boulton to send to James Hope.)
Dear Friend,
I am very desirous to stop law proceedings at Edinburgh untill after Mr. Romilly's return to England, which I expect before the expiration of this month, and then to determine upon a public meeting of my family creditors to take into consideration the paper I sent you the 21st ultimo of ten pages, in which (page 9) I have represented that all our debts may be immediately paid exclusive of interest by our creditors taking Carron stock at the market price; and this I hope will be approved by a public meeting. Since I wrote that letter the price of stock is advanced from £337. 10 per share to £350 by the sale of ten shares to a Mr. Stainton (brother to Carron Company's manager), and these shares Mr. Hog offered to sell at £175 per share, and they have paid more than ten per cent. (on £175) by way of dividends (say 10 per cent. per annum on 175£ ).
I wish you would write and send me a letter to the tenor of what I have wrote on the other side.
I am ever gratefully and affectionately yours,
Samuel Garbett
PS. Pray return me Mrs. Romilly's letter by the bearer, who I will send for it to morrow (Sunday noon).

(Sketch.) Mr. Boulton to James Hope Esqr., October 3, 1802.
Sir,
I desire you will petition the Lords of Session to allow time to give into court an additional paper or minute relative to the claim of Mr. Garbett's creditors in consequence of his being guarantee for Mr. Gascoigne to Sir James Campbell on account of the estate of Dalderse.
I am, sir, &c.
