DescriptionDear Friend,
With this I send Mr. Campbell's draft of a reply to Mr. Hog's opposition to my claim upon the seperate effects of Charles Gascoigne upwards of £20,000 which Carron Company have paid to Sir James Campbell on account of the estate of Dalderse, and therein (pages 34, 35, 36, and 37) Mr. Campbell has introduced in your name a defence against the attack Mr. Hog made upon my character and conduct, from letters you had kindly wrote to me, but I don't think improper to let it pass without your seeing. Reading the whole would be some amusement to you if the writing had been tolerably legible. Pray be so good as to return it in two or three days at furthest.
I with it send a copy of the representation I made to you and many of my creditors in January last, shewing what sum had been produced by Carron Company since the effects of Charles Gascoigne were sequestered in June 1772; since I drew that state of facts, Carron shares (nominally 250£) sold at 375£, 12 shares to two different persons, which in the year 1790 Mr. Hog offered to sell at 175£ each, and since that time more than 10 per cent. per annum has been paid as dividends upon £175.
God bless you. I am ever gratefully and affectionately your
Samuel Garbett
